Kolkata, Sept. 28 -- The Anti-Corruption Branch has arrested an Inspector of Backward Class Welfare and Tribal Development (BCW & TD) department for alleged diversion and misappropriation of government scheme funds in Kharagpur.
According to ACB officials, a case was registered at the ACB police station on February 10 last year under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the IPC in connection with the alleged misappropriation.
During the investigation, cops identified an Inspector of the BCW & TD department, who was then posted at the Kharagpur-I BDO office. The probe revealed that funds meant for the Taposhili Bandhu Pension Scheme and OASIS Scholarship Scheme were allegedly diverted and credited to bank accounts belonging to him and his relatives. Recently, the ACB had issued a summons directing the Inspector to appear for interrogation.
During Monday's interrogation, the accused allegedly failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the material circumstances and transactions, following which he was arrested. It is alleged that the accused had created several false IDs and applications to divert and misappropriate government funds.
