Jalpaiguri, June 29 -- A dispute over the setting up of student help desks at Ananda Chandra College in Jalpaiguri turned violent on Monday, as members of the ABVP and the SFI clashed on the campus, leaving several students from both organisations injured.

The incident took place during the physical verification of newly admitted students. Both student organisations had set up help desks to assist freshers with admission-related formalities. According to sources, tensions flared after each side accused the other of obstructing the functioning of its help desk. The verbal altercation soon escalated into a physical confrontation.

Police from Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station rushed to the college, while Principal Debashis Das and faculty members intervened to restore order. The college administration later confirmed that the situation was brought under control.

Following the clash, the college authorities ordered the removal of all student help desks from the campus. Principal Debashis Das announced that no student organisation would be allowed to operate such desks inside the college premises. Police personnel remained deployed at the college gate as a precautionary measure to prevent any further unrest.
