New Delhi, Sept. 17 -- With polling for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections scheduled for Friday, major student organisations, including the ABVP, NSUI and the AISA-SFI alliance, are set for a closely watched contest for the four central panel posts.
Polling for day classes will be held from 8.30 am to 1 pm, while students in evening classes can vote from 3 pm to 7.30 pm. Counting will begin at 8 am on September 19 at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus, with entry through Gate No. 2.
The university has deployed 1,000 EVMs, of which 960 will be used for polling and 40 kept in reserve. Chief Election Officer Raj Kishore Sharma said 12 control rooms would remain functional, with technical experts available to address any glitches. After polling, the EVMs will be transported under police security to the counting venue.
The contest for president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary is between candidates from the ABVP, Congress-backed NSUI and AISA-SFI alliance, among others. The final provisional list has seven candidates for president, five for vice-president, four for secretary and four for joint secretary.
The ABVP has fielded Yash Dabas for president, Ishu Maurya for vice-president, Riya Chhawadi for secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh for joint secretary. Dabas, a student of Buddhist Studies and an international-level tennis player, has competed in ITF events in Spain, Australia and Serbia. Maurya is a law student at Campus Law Centre, while Chhawadi studies BA Programme at Sri Aurobindo College. Singh, also from Campus Law Centre, has represented India in handball at the Asian Games and World Championship, according to the organisation. The NSUI candidates are Vijay Shankar Meena for president, Vir Chatrath for vice-president, Namrata Chaudhary for secretary and Gopal Choudhary for joint secretary. The organisation's campaign has focused on putting student interests first, with its 'My Campus, My Manifesto' initiative seeking suggestions from students.
The AISA-SFI alliance has nominated Ananya Raturi, Akshat Shikhar, Stanzin Deskyong and B Parijaat for president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary, respectively. The alliance has campaigned on 'alternative politics', affordable accommodation and hostel facilities, and opposed what it calls 'money and muscle politics'. Student safety and accommodation have emerged as key issues following the Satya Niketan building collapse earlier this month, which killed seven people, including students. The ABVP has proposed a Student Housing Cell and safety audits.
The university has imposed traffic restrictions on Chhatra Marg, Probyn Road and University Road on Friday and Saturday until the results are declared. In the 2025 election, the ABVP won three central panel posts, including president, while the NSUI secured vice-president.
