Kolkata, Sept. 24 -- Mamata All India Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee alleged that an April WhatsApp group message points to a conspiracy to delete 30 lakh names from electoral rolls and demanded answers from CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the Chief Justice of India.
Sharing the screenshots, Abhishek wrote: "It raises serious questions about an alleged conspiracy to delete 30 lakh names from the electoral rolls. This cannot be brushed aside. It cannot be buried. And it cannot be answered with silence."
The screenshots show General Observers questioning the ECI's instructions in West Bengal. One wrote: "We were asked to observe and don't do anything. Now in WB we are asked to everything. Pl clarify @ ECI." Another said: "I feel it is cheating by @ ECI" and demanded the removal of the CEO, adding: "Basically I demand neutral CEO, the present one is not."
Meanwhile, Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra lodged a complaint against Kumar at Parliament Street Police Station, alleging unilateral decisions and manipulation of electoral rolls.
Moitra alleged three key irregularities - a parentage-related question was added to Form 6 without amending the rules; appeals were filed against around 33 lakh West Bengal voters without the other two Election Commissioners being informed; and Kumar, along with then DG (IT) Seema Khanna, allegedly manipulated the rolls through the backend while bypassing EROs and BLOs.
"Seema Khanna... along with Gyanesh Kumar, played with the software from the backend to manipulate voter lists," Moitra alleged.
