India, Aug. 27 -- Delhi Police has registered a case of abetment to suicide in connection with the death of a 31-year-old M.Sc Physics student of IIT Delhi, who allegedly jumped from the sixth floor of the institute's Lecture Hall Complex on August 22. Police said the student entered the campus around 8am after showing his identity card, went to the complex and allegedly jumped from the sixth floor. He was taken to the campus hospital, where he was declared dead. A PCR call was received at Kishangarh police station around 8.30am. No suicide note was found. Police seized his phone and are collecting his counselling records and other documents. The student's mother alleged that IIT Delhi's refusal to grant him hostel accommodation worsened his mental trauma and blamed the Dean and institute authorities for his death. The family has sought Rs 1 crore compensation. IIT Delhi has ordered an internal probe and offered condolences.
