India, July 17 -- A district-wide crackdown against illegal arms, organised crime and street criminals in Delhi's Rohini has led to the arrest of 46 people and the recovery of 19 country-made pistols, 26 live cartridges and nine knives over the past two days, police said on Thursday. Officials said so far this year, police in Rohini have recovered 155 illegal firearms and 287 live cartridges - the highest firearm recovery among all Delhi Police districts and units. The two-day drive, 'Operation Shastra', was conducted across Rohini district on July 14 and 15 as part of a special enforcement campaign targeting illegal possession of arms, organised criminal networks and habitual offenders, they said.

Police said 24 cases under the Arms Act, five under the Excise Act, two under the NDPS Act and three under the Gambling Act were registered during the operation. According to the police, 15 teams comprising 210 personnel conducted searches and raids at 106 locations across the district. "During the drive, 101 parks were checked, black films were removed from 60 vehicles, around 400 historysheeters were verified, while eight active historysheeters and one proclaimed offender were arrested," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Shashank Jaiswal said. Besides the 46 arrests made during the operation, 23 people were also bound down under preventive provisions of law and a motorcycle was also recovered, police said. Police arrested 46 people in cases under the Arms, Excise, NDPS and Gambling Acts, recovering 36 illegal firearms, illicit liquor, narcotics, house-breaking tools, a stolen motorcycle and a car.
