India, April 18 -- A tragic road accident on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway in Ghaziabad claimed three lives after a speeding traveler bus rammed into a stationary vehicle and pedestrians near a college exit, police said on Friday. The incident occurred close to the exit gate of IPEM College, along National Highway-9, where a group of youth had briefly halted their Mahindra Thar to ask for directions from a motorcyclist. According to officials, the youths were standing beside the SUV and speaking to a Rapido bike rider when a passenger-laden traveler bus approached at high speed and lost control. The bus crashed into the stationary Thar and the group standing nearby, crushing them between the two vehicles. All three victims died on the spot due to the severity of the impact. The deceased have been identified as Naveen Kumar Verma (35), a resident of East Jawahar Nagar in Ghaziabad, Deepak Seedana (30), from Rudrapur in Uttarakhand, and Yogesh (25), a Delhi-based Rapido rider. Police from the local Vijay Nagar police station rushed to the scene soon after receiving information and took the bus driver,identified as Virender Kumar into custody. Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver may have dozed off at the wheel, leading to the fatal collision. Assistant Commissioner of Police Upasana Pandey confirmed that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and further legal proceedings will be initiated upon receiving a formal complaint from the victims' families.
