Noida, Oct. 8 -- A 29-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after jumping into a drain near the Sector 81 metro station here following an argument with his wife over his alcohol consumption, police said on Thursday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, Abhay Kumar Mishra said the local Sector 39 police station received information through Dial-112 on Wednesday that a man had jumped into a drain near the metro station with the intention of taking his own life.

"Police identified the man as Ravi, a native of Etah who was currently residing in Harola under the jurisdiction of Phase-1 police station," Mishra said. A search operation was subsequently launched by the local police, fire service and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), following which the man's body was recovered, the ADCP said.

"According to the man's wife, she had an argument with Ravi over his alcohol consumption, following which he allegedly jumped into the drain in a fit of anger," Mishra said.

Police completed the inquest proceedings and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
