Greater Noida, Sept. 2 -- A 25-year-old married woman died after falling from the terrace of a house in Dwarka City Colony under Badalpur police station on Tuesday, with her family alleging that she was pushed to death over a dowry demand of Rs 10 lakh.

The deceased, Rachna, had married Akash, a resident of Dwarka City Colony, around a year ago, police said. Her father, Chandra Prakash, is a resident of Bulandshahr.

Rachna's family alleged that her husband and in-laws had been demanding Rs 10 lakh, reportedly to buy a car, since soon after the marriage. They claimed she was harassed when the money was not provided.

According to the family, Rachna fell from the terrace on Tuesday morning. She was taken for medical treatment but died before treatment could be provided.

The family approached police, alleging that she had been deliberately pushed. Police sent the body for postmortem.

Badalpur police station in-charge Vijay Gupta said a complaint had been received and the circumstances were being investigated. A case was later registered and police began looking for the accused.
