New Delhi, Sept. 11 -- Two men were killed and one injured when their car rammed the rear of a truck on Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) near Mehrauli in Ghaziabad early Thursday.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 1.30 am on the Ghaziabad-Delhi carriageway.
Police have said that the three men had been travelling from Hapur to Delhi, and had entered the DME from Dasna, when their car ran into the back of a truck travelling on the expressway.
The impact of the collision caused the front half of the car to be completely smashed, critically injuring the two occupants in the front seats.
Passers-by alerted authorities after the crash, after which all three occupants of the car were rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors there declared two of them dead on arrival, while the third was injured.
The dead were identified as Sachin Kumar (25) and Anuj Kumar (26) both residents of Simbhaoli in Hapur district.
The two men were travelling towards Najafgarh in Delhi. Sachin was driving the car when the incident occurred.
The injured passenger was identified as Yogendra Singh, 28, a resident of Surajpur in Gautam Budh Nagar. He was initially sent to the hospital, but later transferred to a private facility by his family. Police said an inspection of CCTV footage suggested the car hit the truck from behind.
Traffic inspector Ashesh Yadav said that the possibility of the driver falling asleep was being
looked into.
