New Delhi, Aug. 28 -- Two passengers, including a seven-year-old girl, were killed and around 20 others injured after a roadways bus collided with a dumper on National Highway 34 in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district on Friday morning.
The bus, carrying more than 70 passengers, was travelling from Delhi to Kanpur when it crashed into the rear of a dumper near Baghrai Cut. The dumper was reportedly negotiating a turn when the collision took place.
The bus was operating via the Kaushambi depot and had left Delhi at around 11:30 pm. It reached the Baghrai Cut area in the morning, where it struck the dumper ahead. The impact severely damaged the front section of the bus.
People passing through the area alerted the police and emergency services following the crash. Police and ambulance teams reached the spot and launched rescue operations.
The injured passengers were taken to Jatia Government Hospital, MD Hospital and Kailash Hospital for treatment. The seven-year-old girl was declared dead on arrival at Kailash Hospital, while a 35-year-old woman, identified as Babli, died during treatment.
Around 20 passengers remain under treatment at different hospitals, among them relatives and family members of the deceased.
Police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. The damaged bus and dumper were later cleared from the highway to allow traffic to resume.
