Kolkata, May 12 -- Agnimitra Paul, who officially took charge of the state Women and Child Development (W& CD) department of the newly formed BJP government in Bengal, on Tuesday, delivered a message of zero tolerance towards atrocities on women and said that instances of not registering FIR for crime against women would "now be a thing of the past".
"In adherence to our 'Sankalp Patra' (released prior to the Assembly elections in Bengal), women's safety and security will be of top priority in the state. There will be a women's police station in each sub-division, help desks for women in all police stations, a helpline number for them and CCTV surveillance to help in quick detection of crime against women," Paul said.
She reiterated that there will be no attempt to 'cover up' any crime against women, and the offender, irrespective of political affiliation, will be punished as per legal provisions. "The police will have to initiate an FIR on the basis of any complaint of crime against women," she added.
The minister further declared that the safety and dignity of women in the workplace would be ensured.
