Chandigarh, Oct. 22 -- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday interacted with students of Guru Gobind Singh International School, Faridkot, at the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, explaining the functioning of the state legislature and urging them to pursue their ambitions through honesty and hard work.

Mann familiarised the students with how Bills are introduced, debated and passed into law, how the state budget is approved and how elected representatives are held accountable to the people. He said young people were Punjab's greatest strength and stressed that talent and merit, rather than influence or recommendations, should determine their future.

Sharing his personal experiences, the chief minister encouraged students aspiring to join the civil services or become lawyers, doctors and defence officers to start working towards their goals without waiting for the perfect moment. Referring to his own electoral defeat, Mann urged them not to be disheartened by examination results or initial failures, describing setbacks as opportunities to learn and return stronger.

He said the state government was committed to merit-based recruitment, ensuring deserving candidates a fair opportunity to serve Punjab. Mann also highlighted the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, under which eligible families receive health coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh. He said the initiative aimed to improve access to healthcare and prevent families from compromising on treatment due to financial constraints.
