Kolkata, Oct. 15 -- State Transport minister Arjun Singh on Thursday blamed the erstwhile state administration for the degradation of state-run transport services, especially bus services and also alleged that when the newly-elected government took over, about 27 lakh unregistered vehicles were plying on the roads.
On Thursday, Singh while attending a flagging off of two buses of a private bus operator at the Esplanade CTC control room, mentioned that the figure of unregistered vehicles has come down to 14 lakh within just a few months of the effort by the new government. The minister further requested the private bus operators to roll out new buses equipped with modern facilities offering good services to the people. He also mentioned that talks are on with other states to allow bus services from Bengal.
Singh stated that the newly-elected state government led by CM Suvendu Adhikari had a 'zero tolerance' policy.
"Already five officials of the Transport department were arrested and subsequently suspended for their involvement in corruption," said Singh.
