New Delhi, Sept. 15 -- Oracle has begun another round of layoffs, with employees receiving termination emails early Monday morning informing them that their jobs had been eliminated as part of a broader organisational restructuring. The latest cuts come as the technology company continues to increase spending on artificial intelligence and data-centre infrastructure.
Several affected employees reportedly lost access to company systems before receiving the formal notification. In some cases, corporate logins were disabled in the early hours, followed by the loss of access to internal communication platforms. At around 6 am, employees received an email from Oracle leadership telling them that Monday would be their final working day. The exact number of employees affected in this latest round has not been disclosed. The new job cuts follow a much larger workforce reduction during Oracle's fiscal 2026. The company's global headcount fell by about 21,000 employees, or 13%, during the year, leaving it with roughly 141,000 employees at the end of May.
Oracle has linked part of its workforce reduction to its growing adoption and deployment of artificial intelligence. At the same time, the company is making major investments in AI infrastructure, including data centres needed to support growing demand for cloud and AI services. The latest layoffs highlight the financial pressure created by Oracle's aggressive AI expansion. The company has projected total restructuring costs of about $2.8 billion for its fiscal 2026 plan after adding another $700 million to the expected expenses. The restructuring includes job cuts and contract terminations. Oracle is also spending heavily on data-centre capacity. Its capital expenditure has risen sharply as it works to meet demand from major AI customers, while the company is raising substantial amounts of debt and equity to finance the expansion.
The layoffs have also renewed concerns over possible further job losses in India, where Oracle has a large workforce. Reports earlier this year indicated that around 12,000 employees in India had been affected by an earlier round of cuts, although the company has not publicly confirmed that figure. The latest restructuring reflects a broader trend across the technology industry, where companies are reducing some traditional roles while redirecting resources towards artificial intelligence, cloud computing and other emerging technologies. Oracle's simultaneous expansion of AI infrastructure and reduction in workforce underscores the changing priorities within the sector.
