Lucknow, Sept. 23 -- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Wednesday directed party workers to prepare to contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab on their own strength.
She told cadres that the party "must focus on its goal of forming governments without allowing personal interests, family ties or caste
considerations to come in the way."
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also stressed the prevalence of caste-based discrimination in society as she highlighted the recent suicide case of an IIT Bombay student.
Addressing a special all-India meeting of the BSP at the party's Uttar Pradesh headquarters here, Mayawati reviewed preparations for the three state polls, including the selection of "strong and capable" candidates, and directed workers to work with "complete honesty and dedication" for electoral success.
Mayawati said the challenges before the movement for self-respect and dignity launched by B R Ambedkar were not posed by
any one particular political party but by "a frontal attack from all opposition parties through various dirty tactics and conspiracies".
"We have to free ourselves from all kinds of attachments, relationships and personal
interests and focus our attention only on the goal of forming the government," she said.
