Kolkata, Sept. 2 -- TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose alleged that police in West Bengal were being misused to target party leaders and activists, with FIRs not uploaded online and mandatory notices allegedly not served.
Ghose said the Supreme Court's direction to upload legible FIRs online was not being followed, and alleged that mandatory notices under BNS were also not being served in cases carrying punishment of less than seven years.
She alleged that cases dating back to 2018 and 2019 were being revived through fresh complaints, describing it as a "conspiracy against TMC activists".
Referring to TMC Rajya Sabha leader Derek O'Brien's questioning in Kolkata, Ghose claimed he was pushed and fell, yet a complaint was lodged against him.
Calling the alleged police action part of a wider pattern of "political atrocities" and intimidation, Ghose warned that misuse of the police would leave no one safe.
She alleged violations of human rights, the Constitution and law and order, and said the TMC would challenge the actions and raise the issue at national and international forums.
