Kolkata, July 5 -- Admissions through the first phase of West Bengal's Centralised Admission Portal (CAP) for the 2026-27 academic session rose nearly 20 per cent to 3.08 lakh, while female enrolment increased 26.45 per cent over the previous year, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Saturday.
A total of 3,08,748 students secured admission through the portal in the first phase, compared with 2,57,429 in 2025-26, according to figures released by the state government. Applications also rose by 20.35 per cent to 25,17,384 from 20,91,348 last year.
Female applications increased from 18,44,441 to 24,80,017, while admissions of female students rose from 1,43,653 to 1,81,633.
"Today, we have completed the first phase with over 3.08 lakh admissions. It is very encouraging that admissions of female students increased by 26.45 per cent compared with the previous academic session," Adhikari said in a social media post.
He congratulated students who secured seats in the first phase and appealed to those who were not allotted seats to participate in the second phase of admissions.
The next phase of admissions will begin on July 7. Classes for the new academic session will also start on July 7.
