India, Aug. 21 -- The Press Club of India on Thursday clarified that it had not organised an event at its premises where a cutout of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was reportedly worshipped, after visuals from the gathering were widely circulated online. Videos showed a 'Modi Chalisa' being recited alongside a cutout depicting Modi in a god-like manner, drawing criticism on social media. The Press Club said the hall had been hired for a press conference, but the organisers violated the terms of the booking. Club authorities intervened and stopped the event, it said. Rajan Singh, vice-president of the Bihar State Transgender Welfare Board and organiser of the event, said the group planned to build a temple for Modi in Bihar. He said the proposed temple, dedicated to "Lord Shri Narendra Modi ji", would cost Rs 112 crore and be built on five acres. Defending the plan, Singh credited Modi's government with providing rights and employment opportunities to transgender people.
