Kolkata, July 27 -- "'Bhoy Out, Bhorsha In' has turned into an UNO REVERSE for the people of Bengal. Is this the 'Parivartan' they promised?" the TMC asked, as it criticised the BJP-led West Bengal government following the alleged rape and murder of a woman in East Midnapore, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's home district.
According to the report, the woman's body was recovered by police from her house on Sunday morning. Her husband told investigators that he lives alone in a nearby house and was out to buy medicine when he saw that the lights of the woman's house were on late on Saturday night. When he came to check, he allegedly found his wife lying dead on the bed, with a piece of cloth around her neck and blood coming from her ear. Her gold earrings and chain were reportedly missing.
Police suspect that she was strangled to death after the alleged rape. CCTV footage from shops around the house is being examined, while the woman's husband has been arrested for questioning. "After examining the allegations, strict action will be taken. No one will be spared," said a senior police officer.
The incident came days after a minor girl was allegedly raped at a religious place in the same district. TMC alleged that the Chief Minister and women ministers in his Cabinet had maintained a "deafening silence" over rising atrocities on women.
