Darjeeling, Oct. 7 -- On the occasion of the 20th foundation day of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), president Bimal Gurung sent home the message of unity and peace. He further stated that Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was eager to attend the foundation day commemoration but could not as he had to attend the Prime Minister's programme.

"We have to all work together for the betterment of the Hills, Terai and Dooars. No party should be left out in this process. We have full faith in Prime Minister Modi, Union Home minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for resolving the permanent political solution (PPS) issue at the earliest," stated Gurung.

The GJM president further stated that the government was keen on resolving the Gorkha impasse. "We will meet the interlocutor appointed by the Centre on Thursday. This is our second meeting with him. We are optimistic that the Hills, Terai and Dooars will definitely get something good," said Gurung.

He urged the government to include provisions for regularising voluntary teachers and other temporary workers under PPS.

Gurung stated: "This is not the Bimal Gurung of 2017, this is the Bimal Gurung of 2026. I don't want unrest, I want peace. I want employment for our youths, new tourist spots to be developed and vacancies to be filled.

I don't want forceful migration to the cities. Our youths should have ample opportunities here so that they can earn a living and don't have to migrate elsewhere in search of jobs."

Bishal Lama, Minister of State for Home and Hill Affairs, Minority affairs and Madrasah Education in Bengal attended the foundation day programme at the St. Joseph's school ground along with Lok Sabha MP Raju Bista.

Bista stressed on unity within the Gorkha community, stating that collective strength was essential to secure justice, dignity and constitutional protection for the community.
