New Delhi, Oct. 10 -- West Bengal BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), alleging that "anti-national" forces were operating behind a veil.
Bhattacharya was speaking to reporters at Bagbazar Ghat after offering 'Tarpan'. He criticised the agitation, accusing the protesters of disrespecting the public and undermining the people's mandate.
The CJP held a nationwide agitation on October 10, 2026, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and a rollback of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The CJP held a massive agitation in Delhi.
"Today's agitation was staged out of despair. The Government of India is keeping a tab on this. Anti-national activities were going on behind a veil," Bhattacharya said:
The state BJP president added: "They are insulting the people. The movement taking place today is against the people, and the public is being humiliated. This is a betrayal of the people's mandate, and this cannot be allowed to continue."
Slamming former chief minister Mamata Banerjee, the BJP state president stated: "She is not here in Kolkata at the beginning of Devi Paksha. She has gone to Delhi. We want to see her in the Puja pandals in Kolkata."
