SIPITANG, Aug. 15 -- A 14-foot male crocodile was caught and shot dead by the Sabah Wildlife Department (JHL) on Thursday, bringing relief to residents who had been living in fear of the reptile at Kampung Tanjung Pagar.

A village resident said they were grateful for the department's swift action in dealing with the crocodile, which had earlier been caught using a fishing line.

The crocodile was frequently spotted at the mouth of the river near Kg Tanjung Pagar before it was shot dead and handed over to a licensed crocodile hunter.

However, residents have been warned to remain cautious as other crocodiles could still be in the area.
