LINCOLN, May 27 -- A routine police call straight out of a Hollywood crime thriller took a bizarre turn in the US state of Nebraska - after officers discovered the "shooter" was allegedly a dog.

Police in the town of Scottsbluff rushed to a convenience store after reports of a shotgun blast yesterday, expecting a potentially dangerous armed incident.

Instead, they found a damaged truck, a woman nursing an arm injury - and a very unlikely suspect sitting in the back seat.

According to local broadcaster KNOP News 2, investigators later concluded the shotgun had accidentally discharged after a dog moved across the back seat of the vehicle.
