Terengganu police call for restraint as residents vent fury after foreigner crime case fuels tensions
KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug. 10 -- Police have issued a stern warning to the public not to take the law into their own hands following the arrest of three Rohingya men suspected of sexually assaulting a woman with intellectual disabilities in Kampung Besut, Kemaman.
According to Sinar Harian, Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin said any excessive action could disrupt public order and jeopardise the ongoing investigation.
"Leave all investigative matters and action entirely to the authorities," he said in a statement last night.
The reminder came after local residents gathered at the Flat Kampung Enjin Gergaji in Chukai, Kemaman, to voice dissatisfaction over crimes involving foreigners in the area.
