MIRI, May 17 -- Events such as the Miri City International Deep Sea Fishing Tournament not only promote sports fishing and tourism, but also strengthen friendship, cultural exchange and international cooperation among participants from different countries.

In this regard, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah hailed the tournament as an important tourism event for Miri, and Sarawak in general.

Organised by Miri Anglers Club, the 14th edition gathered 58 anglers from five countries.

"This clearly shows that international interest in Miri's fishing tourism remains strong and continues to grow.
