Penang exco denies claim 365 foreign-owned units sold below ceiling price, says figures misinterpreted
Kuala Lampur, May 14 -- GEORGE TOWN, May 14 - The Penang state government has denied allegations that 365 units of properties in the state were sold under the set ceiling price for foreigners, as alleged by an opposition lawmaker.
State Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo (PH-Perai) said there was some confusion regarding the sale price of properties in Penang over the last few years due to the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC) held between 2020 and 2024.
He said the ceiling price for purchases by foreigners was lowered to RM400,000 for stratified properties in Seberang Perai during the HOC period to clear the high number of overhang units in the state.
