Not just raw exports: Malaysia demands tech transfer from REE investors
IPOH, Aug. 20 -- Investors eyeing Malaysia's rare earth elements (REE) industry must be prepared to share their technology and commit to the entire value chain if they wish to secure a foothold in the country, according to Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
The minister said that Malaysia is moving away from the model of merely exporting raw resources. Instead, the government aims to develop a comprehensive ecosystem that allows the nation to capture maximum value from its critical mineral deposits.
"For us to obtain the full benefits from rare earths, we must establish activities not only in the upstream sector, where we export, but also across the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors," Johari ...
