GEORGE TOWN, Sept. 4 -- A 43-year-old local man was injured after he was believed to have been shot at a used-car workshop near a Chinese cemetery along Jalan Sungai Lembu in Machang Bubok yesterday.

Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief ACP Nik Aminuddin Raja Abdullah said police received a report on the incident at about 2.05pm.

"Initial investigations found that at about 1.05pm, the victim was approached by two men of unknown race on a motorcycle.

"One of the suspects is believed to have fired a shot towards the victim," he said in a statement today.

The victim fled to the Chinese cemetery to save himself, while both suspects fled from the scene.

He sustained an injury and a fracture to his right palm.
