KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 -- Malaysia's emerging sushi chefs will take centre stage later this year with the launch of the inaugural Pop Wasabi Awards 2026, a new competition aimed at recognising young culinary talent while promoting authentic Japanese cuisine.

The competition will culminate in a grand finale in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 22, where six chefs representing Japanese restaurants from across the country will compete in a series of sushi-making challenges judged on precision, technical skill and creativity.
