KOTA SAMARAHAN, June 28 -- Kota Samarahan is being positioned as an alternative hub for major state events through the upcoming Samarahan Boulevard development, as Kuching approaches saturation, said Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Abdul Karim, who is also Asajaya assemblyman said Kuching is increasingly congested when hosting large-scale events, particularly at Padang Merdeka.

"Whenever there are parades or major programmes at Padang Central (Padang Merdeka), the whole of Kuching experiences traffic congestion and the authorities are required to manage the situation.
