KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 27 -- About 91 per cent of rape cases involving underage teenagers in Kedah stem from consensual sexual activity, police said.

Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said that from January to September this year, a total of 100 rape cases were recorded in the state, with 91 involving consensual encounters, Berita Harian reported today.

He described the trend as worrying and urged parents to play a more active role in addressing the issue.

"That is why I stress that we cannot stop tackling this problem.

"The police, the Kedah State Education Department (JPN), teachers and other agencies must work together in various ways to deal with it," he told reporters after visiting Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Hosba here ...
