KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 -- The Immigration Department of Malaysia has detained a Bangladeshi man in Kuantan after a viral social media post allegedly showed him holding both a Malaysian international passport and a Bangladeshi passport, even though Malaysia does not permit dual citizenship.

The department said in a statement that the viral post had prompted public concern and led to calls for an immediate investigation.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said a joint task force comprising its Pahang office and the National Registration Department Pahang located the man inside a container at Jalan Kuantan Bandar Damansara on July 4.
