KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 27 -- The 47th Asean Summit opened with history in the making, as Timor-Leste was formally accepted as the 11th member of the regional bloc and Malaysia hosted the signing of a landmark peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described Timor-Leste's entry as the completion of a "united and sovereign Southeast Asian family," marking a significant moment for both Malaysia and Asean.

In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said the milestone reflected Malaysia's long-standing support for Timor-Leste's accession through training, technical assistance, and capacity-building programmes.
