KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 13 -- The Malaysian Association of Film Exhibitors (MAFE) has welcomed the exemption of entertainment duty for local film screenings and theatre performances in the Federal Territories from January 1, 2027.

The exemption was announced by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of Budget 2027, on Friday October 9.

In a statement today, MAFE said the move would support Malaysia's creative industries and strengthen the local film ecosystem.

The association also welcomed the prime minister's call for similar exemptions to be extended to all states.
