KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 19 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Finance Ministry to conduct a full study on the proposal to introduce a hybrid taxation system that combines the current Sales and Services Tax (SST) with the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan has been tasked with overseeing the study of the hybrid taxation system's suitability.

He said the ministry has been given time to prepare a report on the proposal before it is brought back to the Cabinet for further discussion.
