KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 28 -- The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) stood by its decision to charge two Penang schoolteachers over the caning of a student.

In a statement, the AGC stated that the charges that were brought on October 6 over the caning, that was said to have caused injury to the student, were established after a thorough review found sufficient grounds.

The teachers are alleged to have acted beyond the established regulations, necessitating the AGC's actions to ensure the protection of children's welfare and to prevent any actions that exceed the boundaries of existing laws.
