India, Sept. 30 -- October brings a particularly varied crop of art shows in India. The exhibitions this month move from the icons of Indian modernism to artists finding new ways to talk about nature, memory, identity and the everyday.

Satish Gujral gets a major retrospective, while Many Modernisms brings together names including Amrita Sher-Gil, Jamini Roy, M.F. Husain and F.N. Souza. Elsewhere, artists turn to family photographs and letters, indigenous traditions, the streets of Mumbai, gardens and even the changing surfaces of old city walls for inspiration.
