India, July 18 -- 23 000 Lives, the upcoming German movie inspired by a true story, started streaming on Netflix on 17 July 2026. Directed by Markus Goller, the movie follows a group of young people refusing to sit back and watch innocent people trying to reach Europe die in the Mediterranean Sea.

With no experience of conducting sea rescues and limited funding, the youngsters set out to buy an old ship and use it to save the lives of over 23,000 people. However, what starts as a straightforward search-and-rescue mission spirals into a socio-political storm, challenging their sense of what is right and fair.
