India, May 7 -- Before Mortal Kombat II throws audiences back into the war between Earthrealm and Outworld, it is worth revisiting where the last film left the story. 2021's Mortal Kombat served largely as a setup story. It introduced the mythology behind the tournament from the games and assembled the group of warriors chosen to defend Earthrealm from Shang Tsung's forces.
