Parliament Clears Mines & Minerals Amendment Bill to Restrict State Taxes on Mineral Rights
New Delhi, Aug. 13 -- Parliament has passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to restrict States from levying additional taxes on mineral rights and mineral-bearing lands.
The Rajya Sabha passed the Bill on Thursday, August 13, a day after its approval by the Lok Sabha on August 12. With both Houses approving the legislation, the Bill will become law after receiving the President's assent, according to the PTI.
The legislation proposes changes to the regulatory framework governing mines and minerals, including provisions aimed at limiting the power of States to impose additional taxation on mineral rights.
