New Delhi, May 5 -- The Ministry of Defence has signed a Rs 1,476 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of five ground-based Mobile Electronic Systems for the Indian Army, aimed at enhancing operational capabilities and strengthening indigenous defence production.

The contract, awarded under the Buy (Indian Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, was formalised today.

The project mandates a minimum indigenous content of 72 percent.

The systems are expected to contribute to the modernisation of Army units by enhancing electronic capabilities in operational environments. The procurement is also seen as a step towards bolstering the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem.
