India's Power Consumption Rises 12.85% To 169.01 BU In August Amid High Humidity
New Delhi, Sept. 2 -- India's power consumption increased 12.85 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 169.01 billion units (BU) in August, according to official data, driven largely by higher use of cooling appliances amid humid weather conditions.
Power consumption stood at 149.76 BU in August 2025.
Humidity Drives Cooling Demand
Experts said higher feel-like temperatures caused by elevated humidity across several parts of the country led to increased use of air conditioners and other cooling appliances, pushing up electricity demand.
Peak power demand also rose to 258.27 GW in August from 229.72 GW a year earlier. However, it remained below the record 270.82 GW recorded in May this year.
