New Delhi, June 22 -- India has initiated an anti-dumping probe into imports of 'Resorcinol' from China and Japan, a chemical widely used in tyre and rubber manufacturing, according to an official notification.

Resorcinol is mainly used as an intermediate in tyre and rubber production, especially in bonding applications, and also finds use in specialised wood adhesives, dyes, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.

The probe was launched following a complaint by domestic manufacturer Atul Ltd, which alleged that low-priced imports of the chemical are causing significant harm to the local industry.
