New Delhi, Oct. 22 -- India curtailed 378.52 million units (MU) of variable renewable energy in September 2026 due to transmission constraints, limited storage capacity and grid flexibility issues, accounting for 1.28 per cent of total renewable energy generation, according to JMK Research & Analytics.

The curtailment affected 118.6 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity, comprising 96.9 GW of solar and 21.7 GW of wind capacity, the research firm said.

Curtailment increased sharply between May and August, reaching nearly four times the level recorded during the same period in 2025. The addition of around 44.6 GW of solar capacity in FY26 has increased pressure on transmission infrastructure and grid flexibility.
