India 10-15 Years Away From Globally Competitive Battery Cell Industry: Wood Mackenzie
New Delhi, Aug. 22 -- India could be 10-15 years away from developing a globally competitive, self-sufficient battery cell manufacturing industry, while 100 percent domestic content in grid-scale storage projects could raise capital costs by around 30 percent, according to Wood Mackenzie.
India currently has only 2 GWh of commissioned cell capacity, against an estimated 260 GWh battery demand pipeline, reported Financial Express.
Although over 226 GWh of capacity has been announced through 2035, execution delays, financial viability concerns and dependence on Chinese and South Korean technology licensors could slow localisation.
