New Delhi, Aug. 11 -- India's electricity demand is expected to increase 6.5-7.5 per cent year-on-year to 1,825-1,835 billion units (BU) in the current fiscal, mainly due to higher cooling requirements amid expectations of elevated temperatures and below-normal rainfall, according to a report by Crisil Intelligence.

Cooling Demand to Drive Consumption

The report said hotter and drier weather could increase the use of air conditioners and other cooling equipment, putting additional pressure on electricity demand. It added that peak power demand and the impact of temperature changes on short-term electricity market prices will remain key factors to monitor, ANI reported.
