97% Of India's Rural Enterprises Are Nano Units: TRI Report
New Delhi, Aug. 8 -- Nearly 97 percent of India's more than 43 million rural enterprises are nano enterprises, and enabling them to invest, expand and generate employment could significantly boost rural jobs and incomes, according to a report released by Transform Rural India (TRI) in collaboration with IDinsight.
The report, State of Rural Entrepreneurship in India 2026, is based on unit-level data from the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) 2025.
Nano Enterprises Dominate Rural Business Landscape The study found that 93 percent of rural enterprises are own-account businesses, while only 7 percent employ paid workers.
