Afghanistan, May 14 -- Chinese President Xi Jinping told U.S. President Donald Trump that maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait remains the most important shared interest between China and the United States during high-level talks in Beijing on Thursday.

According to China's state news agency Xinhua, Xi described economic relations between the two powers as mutually beneficial and said Washington and Beijing should work together to address major global challenges instead of deepening confrontation.

Xi told Trump that China and the United States are "better partners than rivals," while calling for a new chapter in bilateral relations amid growing geopolitical tensions.
