Afghanistan, Aug. 18 -- The World Bank has kept Afghanistan in the low-income category for the 2026-27 fiscal year, highlighting the country's continued position among the world's poorest economies despite a broader global trend of countries moving into higher income groups.
Only three Asian countries are facing this level of economic hardship. Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen are the only Asian countries classified among the region's low-income economies.
Other Asian countries, including those in South Asia, the Middle East, East and Southeast Asia, and Central Asia, have experienced economic growth and moved into higher income categories in the latest classification.
